Washington Costco shoppers may be able to get money from a $14 million class action settlement over allegedly misleading promotional emails.
The case, Aaland v. Costco Wholesale Corp., claims Costco sent promotional emails with subject lines that created a false sense of urgency about limited-time deals. Costco has denied wrongdoing, but it agreed to settle the lawsuit rather than keep fighting in court.
You may be eligible if:
You were a Washington state resident when you received the email.
Costco’s records show your email address.
You received one of the qualifying promotional emails between June 2, 2021, and July 7, 2026.
The settlement fund totals $14 million, but the exact payout per person has not been set yet. The final amount will depend on how many valid claims are filed and how much is deducted for attorneys’ fees, costs, and service awards.
Eligible consumers must submit one claim form before Aug. 24, 2026. If you miss the deadline, you will not get paid and you may lose your right to bring future claims over the same issue.
You also have three other choices before the deadline:
Opt out if you want to keep your right to sue separately.
Object if you disagree with the settlement terms.
Do nothing, which means no payment.
The court will hold a final approval hearing on Oct. 2, 2026 in Seattle. If the settlement gets final approval and any appeals are resolved, payments would be sent afterward.
If you’re a Washington Costco shopper who received the qualifying marketing emails, this settlement could put cash in your pocket. The key step is filing your claim by Aug. 24, 2026.
