October 2026 Benefits Schedule: Social Security, SSI, TANF and SNAP

Millions of Americans will receive Social Security, SSI, TANF or SNAP benefits in October, but payment dates are not the same for every program. Social Security and SSI follow federal schedules, while TANF and SNAP deposits depend on the state, case information and payment method.

Social Security payments

Regular Social Security retirement, survivors and SSDI payments are scheduled as follows:

  • October 2: Beneficiaries who began receiving Social Security before May 1997.

  • October 14: Birth dates from the 1st through the 10th.

  • October 21: Birth dates from the 11th through the 20th.

  • October 28: Birth dates from the 21st through the 31st.

Some people who receive both Social Security and SSI may have a different payment schedule.

SSI payments

SSI recipients receive two deposits in October because November 1 falls on a Sunday:

  • October 1: October SSI payment.

  • October 30: November SSI payment, paid early.

The October 30 payment is not an extra benefit. It is the November payment issued ahead of schedule.

See the official SSA payment calendar for more information.

TANF payments

TANF, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, is administered by individual states. There is no single nationwide October payment date.

Payment timing may depend on:

  • Your state.

  • Your case number.

  • Your last name.

  • Your benefit type.

  • Whether you receive direct deposit, an EBT deposit or a paper check.

To find your October TANF payment date, contact your state human services agency or check your state benefits portal.

SNAP payments

Your October SNAP benefits may be scheduled according to:

  • Case number.

  • Last name.

  • Social Security number.

  • County.

  • Application or approval date.

*New York uses a staggered issuance system. The October 1–9 dates may represent part of the state’s monthly distribution window rather than one payment date for every household.

These dates are statewide payment windows, not a guarantee that every household will receive benefits on the same day. Your exact deposit may depend on a case number, client ID, last name or another state-assigned factor.

Check the USDA SNAP state directory or your state benefits account for your personal payment date.

SNAP eligibility rules and benefit amounts for the new fiscal year apply from October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027.

What to do if a payment is missing

If your payment does not arrive on the expected date:

  1. Check your bank account or EBT balance.

  2. Review your benefits portal for notices.

  3. Confirm your mailing address and direct-deposit information.

  4. Allow time for bank or card processing.

  5. Contact the agency that manages your benefit.

For Social Security and SSI, contact the Social Security Administration. For TANF and SNAP, contact your state or local benefits office.

Bottom line

The October 2026 schedule depends on the benefit you receive. SSI recipients should expect two deposits, including an early November payment on October 30. Social Security payments are assigned by benefit status and birth date, while TANF and SNAP dates must be confirmed through your state agency.

Check official payment calendars and benefits portals before assuming a deposit is missing.
